We strive for perfection at all times but let’s be honest, technology for short run printing and finishing processes can show up a few minor snags here and there and this is the case with all printers. A print expert or someone with an ultra-fine attention to detail can spot these snags but generally, most won’t even notice they are there. So let’s discuss potential outcomes which come as standard and acceptable for use.
Trimming Digitally printed large format posters are sent to print without bleed and then manually cut down to size. In order to prevent white unprinted borders showing, we trim 1 to 2mm off from each side of the poster, therefore your printed area will be a few mm’s short of the actual size.
There can be up to a 2mm margin for error on trimming prints that require a guillotine operation. This means that the exact cutting point maybe out of sync with your trim marks by up to 2mm. The outcome is barely visible but can become apparent on small product sizes such as A7 flyers and business cards. To minimise the visibility of this case, we take a discretionary action to trim the opposite side by 1 or 2mm.
Mis-registration This term is used for double side printing that hasn’t aligned correctly. This error can be up to 2mm. Visibility is often noticed on business cards but is rarely visible on larger sizes.
Skewing Skewing is a term used when trim marks on the same side of a paper are out of alignment. This margin for error can be up to 2mm. The outcome is barely visible but can become apparent in artwork created with straight horizontal lines. Avoid using these lines to minimise skewing visibility.
Ghosting Although an infrequent case, ghosting may occur on digitally printed letterheads if used on a domestic laser printer. This is when the letterhead prints itself in a much lighter shade. Dependent on the customer’s desire, the following steps to be arranged:
Test sample a small batch of a digitally printed letterhead
Litho print the letterheads which will take 5 days to print and will vary in quality on paper and print. Additional costs may be chargebale.
Lamination & Encapsulation At times, small fibres get stuck onto the print as it slides through the laminator. These fibres may get trapped between print and lamination and visible when complete.
Bitty/Pixalated Looking Prints Solid grey tones can appear bitty and print in a banding style in the actual print when digitally printed. Full colour vinyl adhesive printing, prints in a bitty fashion as standard. Not ideal for small texts and perfection conscious orders.
Colour Consistency Reprints of previously produced artwork can generate colours that look slightly varied to the previous print run. MRT Studio cannot guarantee an exact match in colour or texture between the customer’s photographs, original, transparency or digitally supplied image & the printed article.
There is a distinct difference in print quality between digital, litho, thermo, letterpress, thermo and large format printing. MRT Studio Ltd cannot guarantee a like for like print/colour consistency in the event that the customer purchases print using different printing methods.
Design created by MRT Studio Ltd will be archived for 2 years. Any designs/artwork provided by the customer will be disposed of 7 days post collection or delivery. Designs created by MRT Studio Ltd will remain the property of MRT Studio Ltd.
Any design/artwork transfer to another printer/designer will carry a surcharge of £30+vat per artwork in addition to the original design cost.
MRT Studio cannot guarantee or take any responsibility for not meeting customer’s timings on design.
Any photographic/stock image purchases will remain in our archives & can be used in other future designs created by MRT Studio Ltd.
MRT Studio Ltd cannot be made responsible for the loss of artwork/designs/files in the event of lost or corrupted files within our archive. However, we will do all that we can to reproduce the artwork at the managers discretion and subject to service availability.
Customers Responsibility MRT Studio is not responsible for ensuring customer’s design & artwork is correct for printing. This responsibility is with the customer acting on behalf of the payee or the person paying for the products and services. The customer should check & recheck any text, numbers & layouts to ensure the artwork is ok before confirming to proceed to print.
MRT Studio will not incur liability on errors that may appear on print as a result of the design being incorrect or where low res imagery has printed in pixalation. The customer is liable to pay the full amount as quoted in these circumstances. It is the customer’s responsibility to gain approval to reproduce pictures, artwork, photos and logos. MRT Studio is not liable to any claim & any dispute between the customer & prosecutor as a result of this. The term customer is used to reflect both paying customer and customer responsible for the order.
Payments should be made in full at time of order unless a deposit amount has been agreed at order stage. MRT Studio Ltd accept all major credit card payments & all payments are secure. Cash payments are accepted when ordering at the studio. Cheque payments are not accepted. Bacs payments can be made and must be notified by the paying customer by sending a bacs remit to firstname.lastname@example.org. The order progress on bacs payments will be delayed until payment is cleared.
Confirmation of payment will be made in the form of an invoice which will be emailed to the customer or as a till receipt if payment is made in the studio. Any design or print produced by MRT Studio will remain our property until full payment for them is received.
Deliveries MRT Studio will deliver to UK mainland addresses using UK Mail or by another carrier if required on a next day delivery service. Goods despatched on Friday will be scheduled for delivery on Monday. Delivery can take place anytime between 8am & 7pm, Monday to Friday & costs start from £8+vat. Actual cost is dependent on the size of order & weight. Same day deliveries to London addresses will be charged at the carrier rate dependent on location. The customer should be available on the day of delivery. On some occasions when no one is available to accept the goods;
Delivery may be left with a neighbour – the delivering company may leave a note to confirm this.
Delivery may be taken back to the depot or local sorting office for the recipient to collect – the delivering company may leave a note to confirm this.
Any re-delivery caused by refusal to accept or no one to accept the goods at the delivery address will be charged at the original delivery charge rate. You will be notified in writing if this is the case and your card will be charged for the additional delivery services.
MRT Studio will endeavor to meet deadlines however completion & delivery dates cannot be guaranteed. In this case, we will not be liable or responsible for any delay in delivery caused by events outside our reasonable control. It is recommended that the customer leaves plenty of time for delivery to avoid disappointment. Events outside our control include; strikes, lock-outs or other industrial action. Civil commotion, riot, invasion, terrorist attack or threat of terrorist attack, war (whether declared or not) or threat or preparation for war. Theft of goods. Fire, explosion, storm, flood, earthquake, subsidence, epidemic or other natural disaster. Impossibility of the use of railways, shipping, aircraft, motor transport or other means of public or private transport. Impossibility of the use of public or private telecommunications networks. The acts, decrees, legislation, regulations or restrictions of any government. In these events, the contract between MRT Studio Ltd & the client/recipient of goods will be deemed suspended.
Estimates are based on MRT Studios current costs of production and quotes are applicable for 30 days. MRT Studio reserves the right to change prices thereafter if production has not commenced. Charges will be applied with prior notification & agreement to work which is not supplied print ready.
VAT Print & delivery are vatable. On most occasions flyers, leaflets, booklets & magazines are zero VAT rated. Registered charities maybe exempt from some vatable products and services. For further information, please visit www.hmrc.gov.uk
Cancellation The customer can cancel the order subject to the artwork not being processed to print production. Cancellation can also take place whilst in print production if being printed digitally. In this case, MRT Studio will refund the difference that has not been printed at MRT Studio’s discretion. Design charges will apply if printing has been cancelled.
Returns Policy Due to the nature of the printing business, MRT Studio is unable to offer returns & refunds of unwanted print.
Faulty Print For damaged or faulty print, MRT Studio will offer a reprint or a full refund as long as notification has been made within 48 hours of receiving print by email. Damaged or faulty print notifications must be accompanied with photographic evidence & a sample in the post which must be received within 5 working days. Please note any refunds associated to damaged or faulty print will be made in the form of the original payment within 14 days of confirming the refund.
Availability of services All our products are subject to availability. In the event that MRT Studio is unable to supply the product or service, MRT Studio shall notify the customer as soon as possible & shall reimburse payment in full if required.
Clients who have placed an order, by either paying for the service and/or approving to proceed to print agree that the client has read and understood to the points listed above.
